I listen to a lot of bombastic music like death and doom metal, and this helps put me in the mood to write. I am a very visual writer and I try to replicate what I see in my mind through words. I get most of my inspiration from music and movies. I like writing what I would want to read. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is my favorite book. Anything from the Gothic, American Romantic, and Victorian eras suit me just fine, but I also enjoy intense psychological stories, regardless of genre or era. I rarely pick up a book that is less than one hundred years old, though I do enjoy some modern authors. My first book, The Age of Apollyon, came out last fall, and it’s the first book in a trilogy about what could happen after Satan reveals himself to the world. I’m a sucker for intense dramatic atmosphere and melodrama, and I try to make my writing moody and engrossing. I like to infuse all the elements that I enjoy reading into my own writing. I’ve been writing stories of all kinds since I was a little kid, but I’ve always been drawn to sci-fi, action/adventure, and horror. My interests include art, tattoos, heavy metal, cathedrals, a cold beer, and of course, reading and writing. I teach English classes at a Chinese university. I’m an American currently living in China with my wife and son.

Marie, Dancing takes place in beautiful Paris, France, mainly around the Seine River at her ballet school called the Paris Opera. These were the three most common lessons I found throughout the book. This is another one of her great books that teaches perseverance, honesty, and passion. Meyer has also written Doomed Queen Anne, Jubilee Journey, White Lilacs, and many more. The amazing story of Marie, Dancing is an excellent book written by Carolyn Meyer because of her descriptive language and engaging plot. You have to keep tempo, stay with the music, and perform the grand jetés, fouettés, and combinations that you practiced so hard to be able to do. You can’t show nervousness, fear, or any type of imbalance. Dancers learn to hide their emotions on stage. For a few seconds, minutes or even hours, it’s as if nothing else exists in the world while dancing. What could she possibly be thinking about as she takes the audience’s breath away? The spotlight is on her, her and nothing else. Have you ever wondered what goes through a ballerina’s mind when she dances? Margaret’s Episcopal School for their 7th grade English classes. By some translator's alchemy, Hinton almost succeeds in giving English words the visual impact of written Chinese. This week's poem "Autumn Twilight, Dwelling Among Mountains" is typical in its combined economy and density, while unusual in the hints of end-rhyme. Thanks to an illuminating introduction and notes which seem to provide exactly the right amount of detail, we quickly get our bearings. The poems are short and compact, with beautifully concrete images which recur and connect across the collection. And any reader of contemporary poetry will feel at home with the clutter-free modernity of the language and the simple couplet-structure Hinton employs. We've all seen similar "wilderness" landscapes represented in Chinese paintings, of course – perhaps even paintings which are copies of originals by the multitalented Wang Wei himself. The work we encounter in its pages is rooted in the practice of chan (zen) Buddhism, and belongs to a culture utterly different from our own, and yet it seems far from alien. The Selected Poems of Wang Wei, translated by David Hinton and published in the UK by Anvil Press is a wonderful introduction to one of China's greatest classical poets. |
